FAN THE FLAME MASS 2020

Thursday 4th June was to be our Fan the Flame Mass, where we come together to celebrate all of the young people in our diocese who have received the sacrament of Confirmation and who are preparing to move to the next stage of their education.

Unfortunately, that will not be possible this year.  We do hope that these young people will experience the full Fan the Flame in the future as it is such a joy-filled day for all of us.

To mark the end of their primary education, Bishop McKeown will celebrate the 10 am Mass in Saint Eugene’s Cathedral for them that day via the webcam:  http://www.steugenescathedral.com/webcam.html

VISION 2020:  FAITH INTO THE FUTURE SCRIPTURE SUMMER SCHOOL

Each year, a Scripture Summer School takes place in Dublin (Holy Cross Diocesan Centre).  Over the years, people have enjoyed being together to talk about their faith and to learn about the Word of God.  The experience of being together in one place has been a significant and enjoyable dimension.  However, because of the Coronavirus crisis, we have decided to offer our Scripture Summer School as usual but, this year, online.  With this medium we will reach a much wider audience and people who might not make it to Dublin will be able to take part.  Also, the cost has been reduced significantly.  The opportunity to view the presentations at your leisure may also be a plus.  Go to www.tarsus.ie.

The cost this year is €40.  Each participant will receive access to all eighteen presentations with full notes and study questions as well as being able to take part in all five Zoom conferences.  All details regarding registration, payment and participation may be found at www.tarsus.ie.

The week before (15th – 19th June)

Monday 15th June:  all the material for the course will become available on Zoom; pdfs etc. will be sent around to all participants.

Monday 15th June 12.30 pm:  A Zoom conference for all, introducing this year’s presentations, opening up the discussion and taking any initial questions.

The week itself (22nd – 24th June)

Tuesday 23rd June 7 pm:  Zoom conference for all, chaired by Sean Goan.

Wednesday 24th June 7 pm:  Zoom conference for all, chaired by Jessie Rogers.

Thursday 25th June 7 pm:  Zoom conference for all, chaired by Kieran O’Mahony.

Friday 26th June 7 pm:  Zoom conference for all, with the three presenters present.

Wisdom from the Old Testament Prophets for living in the light of the future.

PARISH BAPTISMS

In accordance with the Government statement and guidelines issued by Bishop McKeown, there will be no baptisms until further notice.  Baptisms will resume as soon as possible, but we ask parents not to be anxious.  It is customary nowadays for children to be baptised many weeks and months after they are born.  Parents can bless their children with the Sign of the Cross morning and evening and recite the Guardian Angel Prayer for them:

Angel of God
My guardian dear
To whom God’s love
Commits me here
Ever this day
Be at my side
To light and guard
To rule and guide.   Amen.

STRESS CONTROL ONLINE

Stress is a normal reaction to the rapidly changing and uncertain times we are all living in at the moment.  If you are feeling a bit more stressed than usual and would like to learn some great ways, free-of-charge, to deal with common problems like anxiety, depression, panicky feelings, poor sleep and poor wellbeing then come along to our online Stress Control class.  ‘Stress Control’ is a six-session cognitive-behavioural therapy class used extensively in community-settings by the NHS (UK) and HSE (Ireland) and across the world.  You can find out more here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDVRme6oWZT2hsCYaSergGw

Due to the current circumstances, Stress Control will come to you and live stream the sessions.  Each session will play twice a day (at 2 pm and repeated at 8.30 pm) for two consecutive days beginning on Monday the 11th May (dates in picture below).  The sessions will be led by Dr Jim White, consultant clinical psychologist, who created the class and who has taught most of the NHS (UK) and HSE (Ireland) trainers who would normally be running classes across the country.

To take part:

  1. Go to https://stresscontrol.org/ where you can learn more about the class and get the dates. Everything you need to successfully complete the class – the booklets, self-assessment, relaxation and mindfulness – can be found in the ‘Free zone’. I f you can, please read, and start working on, the booklets in the ‘Preparing for the course’ section before Session 1.

  1. On the homepage, click on the ‘Stress Control 2020’ link to access our YouTube channel where the classes will be available to view at the scheduled times. If you click the ‘Subscribe’ button on our YouTube page (free), you will receive notifications when a new session is available.  You can also follow this link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_BKErJ_jlSQHKFtHPCRmEctDtcNCCowB

  1. The session will begin exactly on time, so make sure you are there from the start. Sessions run for about 90 minutes and there will be a 10 minute break in the middle.

  1. Each session is one piece of the jigsaw in tackling your Stress. By coming to each class, the jigsaw will form, and the big picture can emerge, making you better able to handle your stress.  This is cognitive-behavioural therapy so it is crucial you practice the skills you will learn between sessions.
