WEEKDAY MASSES ~ 12^TH – 16^TH JULY

Please note that for this week only the 11 am Morning Mass on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be celebrated in Holy Rosary Church, Draperstown.

On Friday 16^th July the Parish Anniversary Masses will be celebrated as usual at 11 am in St. Mary’s, Coolcalm and at 7.30 pm in Holy Rosary Church, Draperstown.

KNOCKNAGIN HALL COMMITTEE

Monday 12^th July ~ Desertmartin Walks for Health Group.  Meet at the Hall at 7.30 pm.

Tuesday 13^th July ~ Exercise with Thomasina in the Hall from 10.30 am to 11.30 am.

Up and Coming activities:  Jive and Two Hand Dancing – couples only or bubble partners.

Woman Resource and Development Agency – Cancer Awareness 3 Week Breast Care Awareness.  Activities will only be organised if there is enough interest.

DRAPERSTOWN LIBRARY

Adults and children are welcome to now come into the library, browse and borrow books.  Summer Reading Challenge will be held again this year and new members are very welcome.  It’s for children aged 4-11 years.  Library opening hours are:  Tuesdays 10 am – 1 pm and 2 pm – 5 pm.  Fridays 10 am – 1 pm and 1.30 pm – 5 pm.  Saturdays 10 am – 1 pm and 1.30 pm – 4 pm.  Parents and children may re-register if they have lost their library cards.

If parishioners in Desertmartin and Ballinascreen wish to have their loved one prayed for at the 11 am Mass in Coolcalm or the 7.30 pm Mass in Holy Rosary on Friday, phone the Desertmartin Parish Office answering machine on 028 7939 7047 or email desertmartinparish@gmail.com by 12 noon on Thursday of the relevant week.  These Masses from Coolcalm and the Holy Rosary may be viewed on the respective Parish webcams.

COOLCALM AND KEENAUGHT OPEN FOR PRIVATE PRAYER

St. Mary’s, Coolcalm, will be open for private prayer and to light candles this week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and FRIDAY from 11 am to 2 pm.

St. Patrick’s, Keenaught, will be open for private prayer and to light candles this week on Thursday and FRIDAY from 11 am to 2 pm.

Please, you must wear a face covering while entering and leaving the church.  Also, please use hand sanitiser at the door.  When you call into the church please pick up a coloured card at the door on the way to your seat.  When you have finished praying please leave the card behind on your seat.  That seat will be cleaned later in the day.  Do not sit on a seat where a card has been left behind.  Thank you.

 

NUMBERS ATTENDING SUNDAY MASSES IN KEENAUGHT AND COOLCALM

In Desertmartin and Ballinascreen anyone may attend Sunday Mass in:  St. Patrick’s, Keenaught; St. Columba’s, Straw; St. Eugene’s, Moneyneena and Holy Rosary, Draperstown.

KNOCK SHRINE ~ JESUIT WEEK

Time Out for the Journey In!  Jesuit Week at Knock Shrine is always a very popular annual programme with pilgrims and visitors.  This year, the 6-day retreat will take place online only due to current restrictions.  The programme will begin on Sunday 25^th July at 8.30 pm and will conclude on Sunday 1^st August at 10.30 am.  There will be three 20-minute sessions each day at the times listed.  You are encouraged to join us online for Mass at 12 noon each day.  The 6-day programme will be facilitated by Bishop Alan McGuckian S.J., Raphoe Diocese, Paula McKeown (Down and Connor) and Patricia McCarthy, Prayer Guides Co-ordinator at Knock Shrine.

LOUGH DERG 2021

Lough Derg regrets that it will not be possible in 2021 to reopen Station Island for the Traditional Three-Day Pilgrimage or even for the autumn programme of Day Retreats.  The outdoor Pilgrimage on the Lough Shore Pilgrim Path will also be available as the summer goes on.  Further information from Lough Derg office, tel. 00353 71 9861518 or visit www.loughderg.org.

CERTIFICATE IN CHRISTIAN THOUGHT

Drumalis Retreat Centre, in association with St. Mary’s University College, Belfast, invites applications for this two-year, part-time, intensive course which begins in September 2021.  The course will be delivered over 7 Saturdays in each of two successive years, from 10 am until 4.30 pm.  The Certificate in Christian Thought programme aims to offer a space where adults can explore, reflect upon, discuss and study faith and how it relates to life in today’s world, both at a personal and community level.  During the course, participants will cover topics on:  Spirituality, Pastoral Theology, The Eucharist, Living the Christian Life, The Sacraments, The Scriptures, Where in the World is God? and much more.  Full details are available at: derrydiocese.org/news/certificate-in-christian-thought

 

 STRESS CONTROL ONLINE  

Stress is a normal reaction to the rapidly changing and uncertain times we are all living in at the moment.  If you are feeling a bit more stressed than usual and would like to learn some great ways, free-of-charge, to deal with common problems like anxiety, depression, panicky feelings, poor sleep and poor wellbeing then come along to our online Stress Control class.  ‘Stress Control’ is a six-session cognitive-behavioural therapy class used extensively in community-settings by the NHS (UK) and HSE (Ireland) and across the world.  You can find out more here: https://ni.stresscontrol.org/

As you can’t come to a regular Stress Control class due to the current circumstances, Stress Control will come to you and live stream the sessions.  Each session will be available on the YouTube channel from 9 am and will be 62 hours after the start time.  The sessions will be led by Dr. Jim White, consultant clinical psychologist, who created the class and who has taught most of the NHS (UK) and HSE (Ireland) trainers who would normally be running classes across the country.

To take part:

 

1. Go to https://ni.stresscontrol.org/ where you can learn more about the class and get the dates. Everything you need to successfully complete the class – the booklets, self-assessment, relaxation and mindfulness – can be found in the ‘Free zone’.  If you can, please read, and start working on, the booklets in the ‘Preparing for the course’ section before Session 1.

 

2. On the homepage, click on the ‘Stress Control Online’ link to access our YouTube channel where the classes will be available to view at the scheduled times. 3. The session will begin exactly on time, so make sure you are there from the start. Sessions run for about 90 minutes and there will be a 10-minute break in the middle.

 

4. Each session is one piece of the jigsaw in tackling your Stress. By coming to each class, the jigsaw will form, and the big picture can emerge, making you better able to handle your stress.  This is cognitive-behavioural therapy so it is crucial you practice the skills you will learn between sessions.

 

Life is very hard for us just now and there are no easy solutions or magic cures, but, with hard work and determination, we can boost our resilience to cope with these difficult times and come out the other end stronger. Please pass this on to anyone who you think might benefit from the class.
